CBD 101
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in the resinous flower of the Cannabis Sativa plant. Both hemp and marijuana, two versions of Cannabis Sativa produce THC and CBD. THC and CBD have similar chemical structures with differing effects.
Both CBD and THC have significant therapeutic attributes. But unlike THC, CBD does not make a person feel “stoned” or intoxicated. This is because CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body. Marijuana plants have higher amounts of THC. This is the chemical responsible for the psychoactive effect or the pot high. Hemp plants have higher levels of CBD without the psychoactive effects. CBD is a safe, non-addictive phytocannabinoid found in the hemp plant.

What is the endocannabinoid system?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is named after the plant that led to the discovery of this physiologic system. ECS plays an important role in regulating the limbic system. The limbic system is a part of the brain responsible for emotions, motivation, and our stress response. Our body produces endogenous cannabinoids. These molecules once activated control, mood, appetite, immune function, sleep and pain sensation.
The goal of the ECS system is to maintain internal homeostasis which is crucial to our survival..
Scientists have identified two primary cannabinoid receptors, called the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are more concentrated in the brain and central nervous system. They play a direct role in cognition, memory, emotions, motor control, appetite stimulation and perception of pain.
CB2 receptors are more concentrated in the peripheral nervous system. They play a direct role in immune modulation and inflammation response. Activating the CB2 receptors can relax the body, help with tissue repair and reduce pain without impairing cognition.

How does CBD work to ease pain?
There are also cannabinoids found in plants, called phytocannabinoids.
A phytocannabinoid is a molecule synthesized by plants. There are 113 known phytocannabinoids in the cannabis plant, including CBD and CBG. Phytocannabinoids can treat many health ailments both in humans and animals.
Topical hemp derived CBD can address pain and inflammation when applied to the affected area. The CBD interacts with the CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the peripheral nervous system. The skin has a high concentration of CB2 receptors that allows the CBD to penetrate and modulate the pain receptor sites.
Parris Wellness offers both warming and cooling CBD body gels.
These advanced formulas are powerful allies for alleviating painful conditions. The purest available CBD hemp derived oil is infused into our non-staining aloe vera base with organic essential oils. Our deeply penetrating gels provide effective relief.
